Civil Registry Competences

The Civil Registry is an administrative body or public service, responsible for recording the facts or acts relating to the civil status of natural persons, as well as others that the laws entrust.

In the Civil Registry births, filiation, the name and surname of the people, real or presumed deaths (ignorance, shipwreck, etc) and marriages are registered. Likewise, it may correspond, depending on the country, the registration of the guards, parental authority, emancipation and nationalization.

The Central Civil Registry in Madrid is a registry dependent on the Ministry of Justice where facts are recorded for whose registration is not competent in any other Registry and those who cannot register due to exceptional circumstances that prevent the operation of the corresponding Registry.
